Telemedicine, which you can access from the safety of your home, is a virtual dental consult that includes a two-way conversation through video conference. During a dental video consultation, we evaluate your dental condition and advise you what to do next.
The ADA defines telemedicine as:
“Telemedicine provides the means for a patient to receive services when the patient is in one physical location and the dentist or other oral health or general health care practitioner overseeing the delivery of those services is in another location.”
Our doctors make every effort to provide you with the dental care you need in a safe and timely fashion. We are happy to note that most insurance companies are covering virtual or telemedicine consultations as if they are in-person visits. In addition to allowing for oral care while we shelter in place, telemedicine provides many advantages.
As we slowly and cautiously ease back into in-person appointments and care, we are navigating adaptations to our public health strategy and seeking to keep our patients and staff as safe and comfortable as possible. Telemedicine helps limit exposure for patients and staff, no matter where we are in the scope of physical distancing.
COVID-19 or not, telemedicine provides more convenient and efficient consultations because they can be completed at home from your desktop, tablet, or mobile phone rather than our office. If, after a telemedicine consultation has been completed by one of our four doctors, it is deemed necessary to come into the office, our doctors are available for same-day and next-day appointments. The Oral Surgery Group is also able to perform follow-up appointments via telemedicine. This truly minimizes the need to come into our office for multiple visits.
